As stated by the Federal Reserve, appraisal reviews "have to determine whether the appraisal or evaluation is well-suited for the transaction, the danger of the transaction, and whether the practices by which the collateral valuation is attained ensures independence and quality." In addition, they "should signify whether the appraisal or evaluation report is compatible with the letter of engagement, which sets forth the extent of the appraisal assignment." The Federal Reserve also says that "some banks augment regular reviews with post-funding surveys of appraisal quality for some of their higher-risk or greater-value transactions as a means to aid in addressing valuation disputes."
